3 steps to unleashing the story within: writing blogs for coaches the intuitive way

You have a story
A real one: messy, imperfect and a bit raw in places.
Yes, it's one of achievement, hard work and bravery, but there are also rough edges and things you'd rather keep hidden. In my experience, these shadowy places are where the magic lies: nuances that will make the people you want to reach sit up, take a breath and realise that there's someone else out there who knows how they feel.
So, rather than hitting 'remove background' on the picture of your life, delve into what's there because what you'll find is gold dust.
Bringing out the magic
I'm not suggesting we jump onto social media and spill everything. Think about the way you connect with a painting or a piece of music: when something touches so deeply, you feel it before you understand it. They say art seeps through the cracks, and that's exactly what we're aiming for: that subtle but tangible moment when an experience reaches you on a level beyond words. The struggle, the healing, the joy, the frustration are all there, visible and honest but somehow held in a way that speaks to the reader like they're the only person in the room.
If you feel like your ideal clients are passing you by, this is the time to tell them the story they've been waiting to hear in a way that'll connect to the heart.
Let's give it a go.

Step 1 - pause for just a moment
Take some time out to find a quiet place and turn your gaze within.
Everyone comes to the coaching, healing or counselling profession via a different route: burnout, lack of alignment, better work/life balance, a healing journey from trauma or getting to the top of a career ladder to find there's nothing there.
Ask, what got you here?
Note it all down - the great and the not-so-great because in the mess, there's gold. Bear with me on this one.
Step 2 - gently observe
How do these things make you feel?
How do you feel about sharing them?
Uncomfortable?
In the discomfort are signposts: indicators of where you can throw the rope back to others who, as yet, have no names for their struggles and insecurities. Where they may see breakage beyond repair, you see the potential for transformation. They think they've reached a crossroads or possibly a cul-de-sac, but you can see the exciting array of paths opening up and it's thrilling.

Step 3 - try something new
Now comes the magic. The awkwardness you feel? That's art seeping through the cracks and as it does, it forms itself into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind narrative. In this way, the imperfect becomes perfect.
These little, inconsequential stories plait themselves together into tethers your ideal clients can anchor to. They know they're not quite so alone and there's someone else out there with the right tool kit, ready to help.
Someone who's been there and got the t-shirt.
So start collating these little stories and if you can't share them as they are, try to share the feeling. What impact did these events and feelings have on your journey and how did you get through the rough times?
What did you find on the other side?
